Ophthamalic Erythromycin, Nearly a decade after hatching the idea for a country album that infuses reggae, Willie Nelson's Countryman will see release this summer on Lost Highway Records.
In 1995, Nelson, his manager Mark Rothbaum, and producer Don Was traveled to Jamaica for a meeting with Island Records founder Chris Blackwell to discuss a reggae-infused country album. Blackwell loved the idea, but made the deal based on hearing another project Willie had given him, which would become Nelson's acclaimed album Spirit, Ophthamalic Erythromycin australia. Spirit was released in 1996, while Blackwell gave the okay to begin recording the reggae set.
Over the next two years, while the music that would become Countryman was being recorded, Universal bought Polygram, which owned Island. Shortly after, Blackwell parted ways with the company, and the project no longer had its champion, Ophthamalic Erythromycin. Ophthamalic Erythromycin paypal, Was and Nelson finished recording the basic tracks and the music was shelved unfinished.
Countryman was revived by Nelson and Luke Lewis, whose Lost Highway label is part of the Island Def Jam family and home to Nelson's most recent works. Producer Richard Feldman (who produced Toots & The Maytals' Grammy-winning CD True Love) was brought in last year to finish the album, which will be released August 2.
The album finds the outlaw country icon covering Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come" and dueting with Toots Hibbert on the Johnny Cash / June Carter Cash composition "I'm a Worried Man." Nelson also covers "Sitting in Limbo," a song that appeared on the soundtrack to Cliff's film The Harder They Come, and fills out the set with reggae versions of seven self-penned songs (including "Something To Think About" and "Darkness on the Face of the Earth") plus songs co-written with Ray Price ("I've Just Destroyed the World") and Hank Cochran ("Undo the Right"), Ophthamalic Erythromycin craiglist.
