A rather epic chat with Justin Maurer of Clorox Girls on writing and music

Strange how little vagaries of the Internet can lead to some great talks. While checking out the Tumblr of artist Tom Lowell in reference to the Young Leaves single I posted last week, I saw some art he’d done for some upcoming Clorox Girls shows. Razorcake Records releases debut Blood Buddies 7-inch

cover-blood-buddiesStomping drums and handclaps seem to be the rhythmic style of the summer. Good. It’s fucking miserable out there, and anything fast is just going to wear me the fuck out. I’ve been needing more stuff like the Mynabirds’ “Generals, and this debut 7-inch from Blood Buddies on Razorcake Records fits the bill to a T.

It’s a little snotty, a little grungy, and the line “your brain’s leaking out” in “Midas Medical Group” is as catchy a refrain as you’ll hear all year. As the label describes it, “They’ll pull you out of the Bronze Age and show you how to forge steel.” Go buy it from the Razorcake store. Snag that Hex Dispensers 7-inch while you’re at it.

Releases which you should peep

First up is the new Sister Series set of 7-inches from Razorcake. On this go-around, we’ve got Young Offenders duking it out with the Hex Dispensers. I love love love the Hex Dispensers, and think most forward-thinking, intelligent people out there would do well to own their entire discography. I’m unfamiliar with Young Offenders, but I hear good things. It’s out now, and you can purchase the double 7-inche release on clear or black vinyl.
