History of Deutsche Grammophon due out this fall

book-cover-deutsche-grammophonThis fall, Rizzoli New York publishes an epic history of what many consider to be the classical music label, Germany’s Deutsche Grammophon.

Due out in October, Deutsche Grammophon: State of the Art covers the 112 years of the German classical label. Retailing for $65, the hardcover book comes in a slipcase with two CDs that cover the cream of the label’s output. There are interviews with the label’s “most memorable artists,” as well as interviews with key players in its history.

NPR did an excellent story on Deutsche Grammophon’s greatest conductor, Herbert von Karajan, a couple of years ago, and you’d do well to take a listen. Von Karajan’s story is amazing in and of itself. I can’t imagine how the complete history of the label plays out.

You can pre-order the book from Amazon right now for $40.95, which gets you free shipping.

We’ll have a review when the book is released.
