Fourth in line

As the wife and I left Walgreens with our drinks this morning, after a vigorous consitutional walk down the Naismith Valley walking trail, we noticed something odd playing over the store’s PA.

Being as how today is Independence Day, it wasn’t surprising that the drug store had piped in some Sousa. The fact that the tune we happened to hear was “The Liberty Bell March” gave us a bit of pause and caused us to break into great big grins.

For those of you who might be unaware as to the exact rationale behind out amusement, allow me to let you in on a bit of trivia: “The Liberty Bell March” is the song that was used as the theme song to Monty Python’s Flying Circus. There’s just something about a piece of music by the man who is played most on July 4 being most associated with a British comedy troupe that lends itself to bouts of mirth.

Let’s hope this doesn’t result in giggles and attendant annoyed stares when they start playing “Stars & Stripes Forever” tonight.
