Fat guy on my head

The big thing a-brewin’ on the Internet music scene today has been the revelation that Sam Endicott of the Bravery used to be in a ska band. The New York Post article about the whole thing also brings up why this is such a big deal, being as how the Killers keep taking potshots at the group, accusing them of being rip-off artists and whatnot.

Funny thing is, I actually heard the ska band Endicott used to be in. They were called Skabba the Hutt (as mentioned in the Post article). I heard their song “Fat Guy On My Head” on the Radical Records Oi!/Skampilation Vol. 3. It’s kind of funny, because the big thing about that for me was that it was what introduced me to the Dropkick Murphys.

Anyhow, I enjoyed their track on the comp, and ended up trying to find the band online a few years back. They’d changed their name to El Conquistador, and became sort of a new-wave act. The band then changed the name to simply Conquistador and broke up after releasing one full-length. I hadn’t heard jack squat until this big deal the past few days.

Anyhow, I do have some of Endicott’s old bands’ mp3s for your perusal. They’re interesting, to say the least. Good stuff, but fans of the bravery may be a bit surprised at the genesis of Mr. Endicott.
