Dr. Demento talks the end of an era, the future of another

demento2Dr. Demento announced on his website last Monday the end of radio broadcasts for his program of nearly 40 years. The program, devoted to showcasing the best in novelty music, has seen its ups and downs, but financial issues have led to it being discontinued in the broadcast medium. The good doctor spoke to us by phone regarding the future of the show.

The one and only thing about this interview that I wasn’t happy about is that when I went to grab some movies at Liberty Hall the other day, somebody made mention of the Weird trailer that came out a month or so ago. If I had been thinking, I would’ve asked about what the doctor thought of Patton Oswalt’s portrayal of him.

I also could have stood to ask about the various people associated with the show: Whimsical Will, Good Time Gil, etc., and how the transition is affecting them. What can I say? There was a little bit of awe in interviewing a childhood hero. Still, I’m very happy with how this turned out.
