You’re embarassing me, you’re embarassing yourself

Lucky me, lucky me. Former Sub Pop and current Warner Brothers recording artists Hot Hot Heat are playing a free show in two hours. Even better, it’s about a five minute drive from my apartment.

I’ve had two chances to see Hot Hot Heat over the past few years. The first time, they’d just released their Knock Knock Knock EP, and I’d heard them on a compilation I got from a co-worker. They played the Replay Lounge, and my bastard bosses at the entertainment store I worked at refused to give me the night off. Then, Make Up the Breakdown came out, and “Bandages” started getting a whole hell of a lot of airplay on KJHK.

By that point, I had my evenings free to see shows, but as I wasn’t working a second job anymore, I had no money to go. So, I ended up watching my then-girlfriend (and now wife)’s kids while she and her niece went and saw them play at the Bottleneck. She was enthused and said it was a great show.

Now, I finally get to see them, and the weather’s not shitty, unlike the Andrew WK free performance a while back. Happy day. And to sweeten the pot a little further, KC indie darlings Doris Henson are the openers. I’ve had ample opportunity to see these guys, as well. However, I’ve never actually made it through a show to their set. Two bands down with one show, and I’m only going to be out a quarter’s worth of gas.
