Someone loan me fifty million

A man named Paul Mahwhinney owns what is described as “the world’s greatest music collection” (it’s even the title of the website)… and he’s selling it. Something like three million records and three hundred thousand CDs.

Basically, the guy’s getting old and wants to get rid of it. The idea is that someone will buy it and then donate it to a museum or university, keeping the entire collection intact. Well, you’re allowed to sell off the doubles “to recoup some of the cost of the collection without diminishing the collection’s historical value.”

Really, before I threw down, I’d want to see a list. It’s entirely possible there’s 2.9 million albums along the lines of Frampton Comes Alive. Or Whipped Cream and Other Delights. Or the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Just because a collection’s large doesn’t necessarily denote quality.
