They came from Boston

This morning, I had to make the decision to bail on my trip to New York for CMJ’s Music Marathon. I overdrew my bank account by $160, used up all my vacation time when I had gallbladder surgery back in July, and I still owe my boss something like $500, while my wife has already spent all of her paycheck, and we still have bills to pay.

So, because of this, I’m not going to CMJ. No trip for me. I was upset about it, but I’ve realized there’s no way we can get ahead if I’m missing a week of work and spending money in NYC. This is the responsible thing to do, and while it’s not pleasant, I’m pretty comfortable with what’s happening.

And, y’know, I’m getting reimbursed for my badge, and Midwest Airlines left me with a $214 credit after canceling my flight, so I’m pretty much only out $100, which ain’t too fucking bad. Plus, they say God never closes a door without opening a window… and it’s a floor-to-ceiling picture window with a view of Central fucking Park, kids.

My favorite band ever, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, are reuniting for five nights of shows at the Middle East in Cambridge December 26-30. It’s basically the return of the Hometown Throwdown, as well as that of the greatest third-wave ska act, ever. The story broke over at Punknews around lunchtime, as Dicky Barrett made the announcement live on WBCN.

The Bosstones were my first concert in the city I now call home. They are the bar by which every live act has ever been judged, because Dicky and crew had the best fucking stage presence I’ve ever seen. Loud, fast, intense, and just fucking fun. Now, the question is: what lineup? Do we get Nate Albert and Dennis Brockenborough, both of whom left the band prior to A Jackknife to A Swan? Will Johnny Vegas be there? Important questions to ponder as the news develops…

Tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster on October 19. They’re gonna go FAST, so bookmark that page and save the date(s).
